Pigment Prints on Unryu Paper

The pieces in my Sketches of Stage series are collages comprised of the acrylic and watercolor work of my mother Barbara Balaban, whose own artistry has inspired me since I was a child. In 2020, I began sending Barbara his photographs of musicians and requesting that she interpret them herself through sketches or paintings. After receiving dozens and dozens of interpretations, I collaged the many pieces to create singular compositions and printed them on a fine Japanese rice paper. This series is ongoing.
